Dear Friends,
I was on my way to the gym yesterday when I realized, about half way there, that I did not remember my gym shoes. I was not in a hurry yet it still felt like a bit of a pain to have to turn around and go back home to get them. As I was driving down one of the main thoroughfares on my way back home, I noticed an animal trotting slowly down the middle of the road directly towards the front of my car. I slowed down and the animal kept coming closer.
As it approached the car, I realized it was a dog and as it got closer I saw that it had a white face, a golden retriever it appeared to be, most likely with very poor vision. I came to a stop and she came right to the car and then turned towards the sidewalk. I got out of my car in an attempt to reach the fearful animal, as did the person in the car behind me. The anxious dog kept moving again down the center of the road stopping traffic and moving around the cars. The woman behind me told me she was on her way home from obtaining chemotherapy but felt she needed to stop as the doggie was clearly in a state of anxiety.
After several attempts, myself, the woman in the car behind me, and a neighbor were able to corral the sweet ole gal who I could see had some significant health issues. We pondered what to do, and I decided to put the sweet being in my car and drive her to the local veterinary clinic to make sure she was not hurt. The other lovely people helped me lift her gently into my car. The veterinary clinic happily took her in, fed her and gave her a warm bed as we searched for her owners. The good news is we found them and she was not too far from home.
The reason I am sharing this story is that I was so touched by the concern of all the drivers, the neighbors and the veterinary clinic. All of them showed concern, caring and love for this aging animal even though one person was clearly dealing with her own health issues. I contemplated how I was guided to turn the car around and go home after forgetting my sneakers. Maybe it was just a coincidence, but I like to think that I was one of the angels of the moment for this being and her family. I was able to commune with her gentle spirit and was touched by her aging grace. Even if it was just a coincidence that I had to turn around, it turned out to be a blessing, and not a pain in the you know what as I originally thought it was.
I contemplated on all those moments when we get sidetracked by unusual circumstances that occur. I remember reading a story about a man who stopped at the local drug store on the day of 9/11/2001. It was on impulse and he would have made himself late for work. Instead, he saved his life by following the impulse as he was a worker in the twin towers that came down that day. Not all impulses and unplanned changes are that dramatic as shown in my story above. However, simple changes that seem like such a nuisance can create moments of pleasure and blessings for ourselves or maybe another if we stay neutral about what is happening.
There are billions of details being coordinated in the universe at every moment to direct our lives. Many of the reasons for coincidences that occur could never be known by our limited human brains at this time. However, if we wait, stay grounded, and stay hopeful, miraculous things can surface in our lives no matter what is happening.
Many people right now are very discouraged by the political climate we currently are experiencing. I’ve had people tell me they fear for their future and for their children and grandchildren’s futures. When I read all the news stories, I too find myself in fear. And yet, when I see and experience all the loving people that are around me such as the people who went out of their way to help this sweet older dog, I am reminded about what a wonderful world we live in. I know that the love we share with one another spreads out into the world and creates more love.
Things happen that may seem very bad as we all know. And yet, I wonder if we can suspend judgment for just a bit and remind ourselves of all the things that are occurring at any moment in time that are amazing and wonderful. Sometimes these occurrences are created by coincidences, sidetracked plans, and followed impulses. I can’t help but feel hopeful when I experience things as I did the day I forgot my sneakers and when I read stories such as the one about the man who stopped at the drug store on 9/11/2001.
Perhaps if we just let go a little and listen and respond to the universe guiding us, we can have a bit more fun, relax a little more, and breathe easier knowing we can’t control everything around us. If we know that there is a benevolent loving universe co-creating with us and attempting to guide us to our next grand experience, we can feel more hopeful about our future and the future for our children and grandchildren. This universe directed several earth angels to help an aging doggie. Imagine what other life experiences are being created right now to guide and help each one of us to a place where we are safe and loved. This same universe is guiding us to unimagined adventures! How beautiful is that!
Namaste Friends. May you find peace in the love of all beings around you, both of this world, and beyond….
